COSMETIC EYELID SURGERY
As you age the muscles supporting your eyelids weaken and excess fat can accumulate above and below your eyelids causing puffiness and bags. Structural bony and volume related changes also occur, causing sagging skin and tired-looking eyes.
The best eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) improves the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids. This is a very common and safe out-patient procedure done in our NYC accredited operating suite under local anesthesia with sedation, as needed.
During a blepharoplasty procedure, the sagging skin and fatty deposits underneath the surface of the eyelid are removed or repositioned through an incision made to the natural crease of the eyelid. Tiny sutures are used under the fold to minimize the appearance of a scar. Our oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Eviatar, may treat lower lid bags with a procedure called transconjunctival blepharoplasty, in which the excess fat is removed or repositioned through the inner eyelid avoiding the need for an incision in the external skin. The patient’s own fat is often re-draped to smooth out contours around the eyes. Through the use of a CO2 laser, bleeding, swelling, and bruising are minimized, reducing post-operative healing time. This same laser is often then used to smooth out wrinkles around the eyes.

COSMETIC EYELID SURGERY
EYELID DROOPING (PTOSIS)
The specific operation to repair ptosis is based on the severity of the ptosis and the strength of the levator muscle. Surgery is designed to reattach the stretched muscle to its normal location. The main goals of surgery are elevation of the upper eyelid to restore normal field of vision, good symmetry, and a natural appearance of the lid fold and platform.
TURNED IN EYELID (ENTROPION)
Surgery to correct a turned in eyelid, also known as Entropion, involves tightening of the eyelid and its attachments to reduce some of its elasticity and to restore normal position.
TURNED OUT EYELID (ECTROPION)
The surgical technique used to correct a turned out eyelid, also known as Ectropion, depends on the cause; the goal is to reposition the eyelid to its normal position against the eye as well as achieve a natural appearance.
SKIN CANCER RECONSTRUCTION
Reconstructive surgery is necessary to repair the eyelid after a skin cancer has been removed. The operation is specifically tailored to the defect that is present following removal of the tumor.
EYELID TWITCHING (BLEPHAROSPASM)
Eyelid twitching is usually treated with Botox. There are also two types of surgery for eye twitching. One involves destruction of the nerve to the muscles. Another involves removal of some of the muscle, which goes into spasm.
CYST REMOVAL (CHALAZION)
Cyst Removal (Chalazion)
This common procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Stitches are usually not required. Recovery may involve some bruising but most people return immediately to their normal activities.
When Eyelid Surgery is medically necessary, these procedures are covered by most major health plans. For more information, contact Chelsea Cosmetic in New York City today!
